Space just is. And is forever. Period.

When you place things into a time capsule, you intend to save the contents for a future time or generation to discover them. Untouched, and timeless. Some things just are. They are just there, for a reason.

Like these Potato Chips:

Almost three years ago now one of the house's favorite people in the world, Nick Krogman, gave the new house a gift. Two industrial-sized boxes of Old Dutch rippled potato chips. They were quickly placed in the cupboard next to the sink as things got organized. So today, I was searching through the kitchen to find a container to hold the kool aid man, and I discovered the potato chips, covered in dust, in the same place as they were originally placed 3 years ago.

I give you the kitchen time capsule:

Now, jake initially responded with "I bet those are still good" as he started to open one of the boxes. I quickly stopped him. What was he thinking? These potato chips are an important part of this house's history. They were there at the beginning. When the foundation of this house was sealed in! Those chips play a sentimental role in the existence of this very blog! Jake Airs Michel was going to start munching away like they were any old pack of ruffles with his snack-pack-attack snacks. Rest assured, the chips are still safe, unopened. Jake came to his senses quick and realized their importance.

I would also like to make a sub-note, and consider the other items sealed away in the time capsule. They certainly have not put in as much time, or hold nearly the same value that the chips do, but they too are certainly bound to be forgotten in time to the secrets of the kitchen time capsule. Here's to you, grape jelly, minute rice, plastic popcorn containers and half-full box of spaghetti!

i don't think i had ever looked in that cabinet before. i wonder what other "treasures" are hidden in the depths of the cabinets, to be unearthed when it is remodeled.
