i saw the new commercial for Mcdonald's Breakfast Burrito. a middle class white dude with his exotic looking girl friend (but still caucasianish), running around transforming their surroundings into paradise after paradise, till the find themselves eating delicious breakfast burritos with sides of hashbrowns and coffee in the living room. they look at each other, 100% stoked on the amazing breakfast in front of them.
i didn't think anything of it. then it occured to me, this is the first commercial for Mcdonald's that i've seen in a LONG time that didn't stereotype minorities in some hip urban setting. why the change?
well-to-do white couple in a nice apartment enjoying their quiet breakfast....not the usual mess of homies hollering "oh snaps dog hit me up wit dat Biggity big mac son" in a sea of northface puffy jackets and pounds. it was obvious Mcdonald's doesn't think minorities wake up early enough to enjoy this new amazing breakfast, so better market it up to people who have jobs to start in the morning.
maybe Mcdonald's is trying to reinvent itself. exploiting urban culture to sell more hamburgers to poor minorities, may not be the way. all black people aren't rappers or gangsters you know...and white people eat at Mcdonald's too...
oh, i get it, if you take out the people being targeted, then minorities can't blame Mcdonald's for stereotyping. so they just replaced them with white people.
then i found the urban friendly version of my breakfast burrito commerical, maybe i was wrong about Mcdonald's. maybe they do try to represent all classes and nationalities equally.
well...for morning those guys sure do look awake. and it seems strangely like the afternoon. and at the end, only one guy actually has a job, the other two are there just to eat, and they look as if, they don't have sh*t to do today.
but then i found this:
ummmm....
what the hell?
so this must be how minorities see white people?!?
if i saw these commercials, i sure as hell wouldn't wake up, go to work, or eat breakfast either.
